Thank you for visiting our website!  Many children and adolescents say they have fun participating in our study, and parents say they learn new things about their children.

On this page you can learn more about how to sign up to participate in our studies.

I am ready to sign up.

If you would like to participate simply enter your name and contact information here, and we will call or email you (whichever you prefer).

I want to learn more about the research.

If you do not know yet whether you want to participate, you can learn more about the research here.

What will my child and I need to do if we participate?

For adolescents between 14 and 18 years old, with your parent’s permission, please enter your contact information here, and we will call or email you (whichever you prefer)
to tell you about our adolescent version of the study.

For parents and their children aged 5 to 13, the study is broken into two segments:

The first part of the study is a survey for children (that will take between 30 and 60 minutes) and a separate survey for parents (that will take approximately 60 minutes). Your child will take the survey using an iPad, and you will take your survey on a computer.  Both surveys ask about thoughts and feelings, which are answered using a rating scale, and the parent survey also includes questions about past events, which are answered by writing about the events.

Some children and parents have participated through their child’s school.  If you have already completed Part 1 through your child’s school you will not have to complete Part 1 again.

For the second part of the study, parents and their children will return to our lab for a 90-minute visit.  During this visit, children will work with a researcher to answer interview questions and participate in activities.  Parents will complete a survey about themselves and their child and participate in an activity with their child.

Families are compensated with $10 for their time, and children also get to pick a toy prize at the end of the visit.
